Steve Winwood has been making music for decades, leading such iconic bands as The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith and an extensive solo career. Collectively he has written 200 songs over 22 albums in several styles including blues, R&B, pop, rock, psychedelia, and Latin. He not only has one of the greatest immediately recognizable voices of our time, he is also a master at the Hammond B3 organ, synthesizers, guitars, bass, and percussion. As a session player he has played with almost all of his peers and became a visionary engineer and producer. Winwood has written and played every instrument on some albums and on others has collaborated with over 30 musicians. Chuck Sullivan has organized all of Winwood’s accomplishments in one book through extensive research and several first hand interviews with such notable musicians as Russ Kunkell, Andy Newmark, Walfredo Reyes, Jose Neto, Steuart Smith, Jon Carroll, and Tommy Lepson among many others. Sullivan graduated with a degree in English and exercises his experience as a musician, producer, and songwriter, to write a comprehensive yet informal book exploring the entire arc of Winwood’s remarkable musical journey. Sullivan met Winwood and confirmed what everyone says about him: Winwood is not only an incredible musician, he is a thoughtful and kind person who is a role model for any musician. Winwood is one of a kind and Sullivan’s book convincingly makes the case that Winwood is one of the greatest musicians in the history of popular music.
